ERCOT delays Batch Zero conditional classifications until later this week

At 7:16 p.m. on August 31, ERCOT sent Market Notice M-A080326-03, titled Delayed Issuance of Batch Zero Conditional Classifications, to legal and operations distribution lists. In the August 21 notice M-A080326-02, ERCOT had said it planned to tell interconnecting distribution and transmission service providers, the utilities that physically connect large loads, of each large load’s conditional classification by August 31, as allowed by the Public Utility Commission of Texas’s August 20 order granting ERCOT a good-cause exception (a regulator’s permission to miss a planning-guide deadline). Monday’s notice says ERCOT “requires additional time to complete its data validation and due diligence processes” and “is delaying the release of this information until later this week.” ERCOT will issue another market notice after it has provided the classifications to those utilities. The Public Utility Commission of Texas interchange for Project 59142, the docket on large-load interconnection process, still shows 54 filings with the last stamp August 20. The delay is an ERCOT operational notice, not a new commission order.

Why it matters

Conditional classification is the step that starts the dispute and data-correction process under ERCOT Planning Guide Section 9. It is not a final classification, study completion, or permission to interconnect or energize. Sliding the August 31 target into an undated “later this week” keeps Texas campus schedules in a holding pattern and means the public still has no list of how any named load was classified. Covered names with ERCOT-queue exposure include Hut 8 at Beacon Point, Cipher Digital in Texas, CleanSpark in Texas, Core Scientific at Pecos, MARA at Matagorda, and later IREN at Sweetwater. It does not bind campuses outside ERCOT, including TeraWulf’s Lake Mariner and Justified sites, Nebius’s Vineland, New Jersey, campus, or Keel Infrastructure’s Pennsylvania sites.
