Opti9 buys Hut 8’s Canadian managed-cloud business; Hut keeps data centers and GPU/HPC
On September 3, Opti9 Technologies LLC said in a GlobeNewswire release that it acquired Hut 8’s Canadian managed cloud business. The transaction covers Hut 8’s traditional managed cloud services business in Canada, with about 10 team members moving to Opti9. Hut 8 retains ownership of its Canadian data centers and continues operating its graphics processing unit (GPU) and high-performance computing (HPC) business. Opti9 and Hut 8 entered a multi-year colocation agreement under which Opti9 will keep running the acquired cloud infrastructure inside those Hut 8 Canadian facilities. The buyer release does not disclose purchase price, revenue of the transferred book, or whether Hut 8 filed a matching investor-relations release the same day.
Why it matters
The deal shrinks Hut 8’s managed-services footprint in Canada while leaving campus ownership and the GPU/HPC line with Hut 8, and it converts the transferred cloud gear into a multi-year colo customer inside Hut 8 halls—useful for focusing capital and management on industrial-scale AI infrastructure, but not a new power or tenant offtake announcement.
