Cipher Mining is Cipher Digital. Texas has not noticed.
The legal name changed in the 10-K cycle. The West Texas interconnection and offtake questions did not.
Summary
EDGAR now lists the issuer as Cipher Digital Inc., formerly Cipher Mining Inc. (filings through February 23, 2026). The August 4 10-Q is still a West Texas power-and-machines document. A name change is a 8-K / charter item. It is not a customer, a substation, or a COD. HPC Daily will keep the market name Cipher Mining in the masthead until the business mix forces the type.
Why it matters
Legal-name churn is a tell that IR wants the equity out of the ‘miner’ bucket. The filings have not left that bucket. Read the 10-Q, not the letterhead.
Companies affected
Risks
- West Texas delivery and weather remain first-order, rename or not.
- HPC conversion without a named offtaker is optional capex.
- Ticker CIFR is unchanged; do not confuse the rename with a ticker change.
